Where to stay in Huacachina:

Hotels and hostels in Huacachina range from affordable dorm rooms in youth hostals to pleasant upscale rooms in 3 star hotels. Four kilometers away in Ica exist truly upscale hotels for people who don't mind spending more to experience a luxurious desert experience. A large percentage of the tourists that stay in Huacachina are middle-class backpackers from Europe, the US, and Israel and therefore the majority of lodging options are geared toward this group.

Where are these hotels and hostels? Find them on our Huacachina map.

  • $$ Hotel Titanic - cheap, very basic and mediocre accomodations ( old pool )
  • $$ Sand and Lake- cheap backpacker rooms in a one-story house, informal, overlooking the lagoon.
  • $$ Hostal Rocha - backpacker hostel, old rooms, near the church ( has pool, bar)
  • $$ Salvatierra - cheap hotel for packpackers, popular ( has nice pool, internet access: 3 soles/hour)
  • $$ Desert Nights - only dorm rooms, good location (has decent restaurant, free WIFI)
  • $$ Hospedaje del Barco -popular backpacker hotel (has pool, bar, restaurant)
  • $$ Carola del Sur (a.k.a Casa de Arena II) quiet backpacker hostel (has small "wading" pool, free access to larger pool at the sister hotel "Casa de Arena", and a restaurant with a strong stoner vibe)
  • $$ Casa de Arena - popular party hostel: loud, busy (has pool, restaurant, bar, discoteca). On the weekends, the discoteca is also the most popular discoteca in Ica, so it has several hundred partiers. Things can get loud, so bring your earplugs. Guests can enter the discoteca free.
  • $$$ Hotel Curasi - middle-range hostal/hotel with nice rooms and a decent pool (bar, restaurant, pool, parking lot).
  • $$$ El Huacachinero - The owner of this hotel, Eduardo Barco, is widely reviled in Ica as an unpleasant and dishonest person. However, his wife has achieved the creation of a very attractive and popular hotel, has many private rooms and two dorm rooms. Overall it is more upscale and more expensive than backpacker places ( restaurant, pool, bar). The environment is quieter and more serious than a youth hostal. Tours purchased through the hotel are very expensive, and should be purchased elsewhere.
  • $$$ Hosteria Suiza - small upscale Swiss hotel, clean rooms, quiet (pool, bar). Some rooms are small.
  • $$$$ Hotel Mossone - most expensive hotel in Huacachina, a restored colonial mansion (pool, bar, restaurant, WIFI internet). The hotel maintains its classic colonial charm, but the central patio inside the hotel has seen better days. Rooms have a lot of amenties but remain dark and slightly dated.

Where to stay in La Angostura suburb:

La Angostura is a quiet, safe suburb of Ica, about ten minutes away from Huacachina by taxi. This is the part of Ica where the wealthy live. There are a number of recommended hotels in the area. If you plan on taking a flight over the Nazca Lines from Ica, it makes sense to stay here because this part of town is just minutes away from the airport.

$$$$ Hotel Princess - a nice, comfortable 3-star hotel in La Angostura.

$$$$ Hotel Villa Jazmin - Extremely clean and modern, friendly service and lots of amenities: breakfast buffet, restaurant WIFI, cable TV, etc. The owner is friendly, and the multi-lingual staff are attentive and helpful. The pool is nice, but too small for real swimming. Strongly recommended.

$$$$ Hotel Las Dunas - The most luxurious hotel in the Ica/Huacachina area, Hotel Las Dunas is upscale, expensive, and popular. The resort has a large number of amenities: the obvious ones, such as hot water, cable TV, high-speed WIFI, a restaurant, etc. In addition to a lovely huge swimming pool, it has large green lawns, horseback rides (extra fee), a small planetarium, basketball courts, volleyball courts, etc.

Where to stay in downtown Ica:

Ica has a wide range of hotel. Staying in downtown Ica offers advantages: the culture is Peruvian, the prices for food, hotels, and internet are much cheaper, and access to the bus stations is easy. Furthermore rooms are likely to contain private bathrooms, hot water (check to make sure!), and cable TV. However, it offers disadvantages too: it is inconvenient if you wish to spend multiple days visiting the oasis and taking the tours. Also, the city of Ica is fairly pleasant but definitely not beautiful, nor is it safe at night.

$$ There are numerous clean, affordable hotels on Avenida Tacna, a half block from the plaza de armas (including Hotel Machu Picchu, etc)

$$ Posada del Sol - has a good reputation, reasonably priced. Is located just half a block away from the best seafood and ceviche restaurant in the city, Soy Peru.

$$$ Sol de Ica - one block from the main plaza, upscale, has free breakfast buffet, WIFI, parking lot, cable tv, etc

$$$$ Hotel Real Ica - formerly the most popular hotel in Ica, at the moment it has lost much of its luster and isn't luxurious by any stretch of the imagination. It does have the most popular discoteca in the city, The Who, located inside the hotel. Has pool, restaurant, etc. The bus company Oltursa has its Ica terminal just outside of the hotel.
